About Albacete
Travelling between Madrid or Cuenca and Alicante or Murcia, you'll pass through Albacete Province, one of Spain's more forgettable corners. Hot, arid plains for the most part, this is very much the Spain of Castilla– La Mancha, with a humdrum provincial capital, Albacete, to match. Scenically, The only relief is in the hyperactive Río Júcar, which, in the north of the province, sinks almost without warning into the plain.
Albacete is the largest city in the Castilla-La Mancha region of Spain. Rich in history, the modern city has retained its traditional flavour. Architecture of the region reflects Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Neogothic influences.
Historians will delight in exploring the cathedral of Saint John the Baptist or the 16th century monastery of Encarnación. The Posada del Rosario is presently the home to the Tourist Office and is a National Historic-Artistic Monument.
