The airport, named after Salzburg-born composer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, is located 4 km (2.5 mi) from the centre of Salzburg and 2 km (1.2 mi) from the Austrian – German border. Business and conference facilities can be found at Terminal 2 (the Amadeus Terminal) or alternatively business passengers can use the facilities at the Airporthotel, which is located on-site at the airport and comes with well-appointed rooms and free shuttle bus access. To travel to and from Salzburg Airport, various car rental companies are based on the group level of the multi-storey parking garage. Taxis, nearby trains, shuttles and buses are also popular, connecting destinations such as the regions of Bavaria and Tyrol, along with various Austrian ski resorts. Consider purchasing the Salzburg Card, which allows unlimited travel on the city’s public transport (including the Fortress Funicular boats), substantial tour discounts and also free admission for many top attractions. In more recent years, 1984 saw the first charter flights operating at Salzburg Airport and considerable reinvestment to improve the facilities. Passenger levels finally reached more than one million in 2000 and just one year later, Ryanair began flying between Salzburg Airport and London Gatwick Airport.
