Derry Airport was used as a military airport initially to help out during the second world war. Way back in the 1930s into 1940s the airport base was called Eglinton. When the war ended Eglinton was once again returned to civilian use. A flying school and club was introduced some 30 years after this ended. In the 1970s this was introduced and passengers still use today.
Fifteen years after Loganair had introduced their regular flights to the UK main land. The Derry City Council applied and received funding to upgrade Londonderry airport. The airport had a major overhaul , over the next five years ending in 1994, including the revamping of access roads, runway lighting and upgrading the runway itself.The pride of place was an up to date terminal with a fire station.
