In 2008 Liverpool is the European Capital of Culture. There are new developments due to this status Liverpool Echo Arena, Liverpool One and Cruise Liner landing Point. Other locations close by are Southport, Manchester, Wirral, and St Helen’s. Liverpool has its own International Airport named after one of the Beatles: Liverpool John Lennon Airport. The airport has a life size sculpture of the Famous Beetle in the main terminal building. Ryan air announced in September 2008 that it will launch two new routes from Liverpool John Lennon Airport later this year. Services will commence to Paris Beauvais in France and to Turin in Italy for the winter season onwards. This latest expansion brings the number of routes at Ryan air’s Liverpool base to 46 and passengers can now access an even wider variety of European destinations from Liverpool. Easy-Jet, Flybe and Wizz airlines are to name but a few who frequently from and to Liverpool.
